A young cricketer who tried to intervene in a quarrel was brutally murdered by three members of the same family in Melnilavur village near Kalvarayanmalai, Kallakurichi district.
The deceased has been identified as Andi (36), son of Sundaram. Passionate about cricket, Andi had won several trophies in local tournaments while also working in agriculture. He is survived by his wife Chintamani (28).
Two days ago, Andi’s younger brother Kumar and his friend Ramraj were riding a motorcycle near the Erukampattu road when they narrowly avoided a collision with a car driven by Prabhu Devan, son of Alagesan. A heated argument broke out, during which Prabhu allegedly hurled obscene abuses.
Later in the evening, while Kumar was sitting under a coconut tree, Prabhu, along with his father Alagesan and mother Velli, attacked him. Seeing this, Andi rushed to the spot and pacified them. However, in a fit of rage, the trio returned armed with an axe and hacked Andi on the head multiple times, killing him on the spot.
The Kariyalur police have registered a case and launched a search for Prabhu Devan, Alagesan, and Velli, who are absconding.
