‘Kalyanaraman’ Arrested for Matrimony Scam – Fraudster Nabbed Before 11th Marriage Attempt

In a dramatic turn of events, police have arrested a notorious fraudster, ‘Kalyanaraman’, who was preparing for his 11th marriage after cheating multiple women through a matrimony website.

The case came to light after a 28-year-old woman from Choolaimedu lodged a complaint at the Anna Nagar All Women’s Police Station. She had uploaded her profile on a matrimony portal, where a man identifying himself as Surya expressed interest. The two met, began dating, and Surya convinced her that he needed additional funds to buy a new house before marriage. Trusting him, the woman handed over ₹8 lakh in cash and gold ornaments.

Soon after, Surya’s behavior changed. He avoided the woman and even issued threats when questioned. Realizing she had been duped, the woman approached the police. Following a search, officers traced Surya to Tirunelveli, arrested him, and brought him back to Chennai.

Investigations revealed his elaborate pattern of deception. Surya would introduce himself as a government employee, lure women with promises of marriage, homes, and cars, and then vanish with money and jewelry. Police sources confirmed that nearly 10 women had previously filed similar complaints against him at Duraipakkam police station. Though he was arrested earlier, he secured bail and continued his fraudulent activities.

Shockingly, this was his 11th attempt at such a scam. During custody, Surya reportedly slipped in a bathroom, fractured his leg, and was produced in court with a cast. The judge ordered his remand.

Police have warned women to remain cautious while using matrimony websites, stressing that background verification is essential before committing to marriage proposals.
