Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today inaugurated the 10.10-kilometre elevated corridor on Avinashi Road, which is now the longest flyover in Tamil Nadu. The grand structure has been named after renowned scientist and industrialist G.D. Naidu, widely known as the “Edison of India.”

Chief Minister Stalin arrived at Coimbatore Airport from Chennai and was accorded a warm welcome by Ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and senior officials. As part of his official visit, he first inaugurated the World Innovation Conference at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, and later opened the newly constructed elevated corridor at Uppilipalayam. After the inauguration, the Chief Minister walked a short distance on the flyover and then travelled in his convoy along the new stretch.
The flyover, built by the Special Projects Wing of the Tamil Nadu Highways and Minor Ports Department, stretches from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins along the busy Avinashi Road. Constructed at a cost of ₹1,791 crore, the four-lane flyover includes multiple ramps and exit points at key locations such as Airport Junction, Hope College, Nava India, and Anna Statue Junction.

The project aims to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between central Coimbatore and the airport, reducing travel time from about 45 minutes to just 10 minutes. The flyover is equipped with advanced safety measures, rainwater harvesting systems, and landscaped medians for an enhanced commuter experience.

In his remarks, Chief Minister Stalin said the project symbolizes the government’s commitment to modern infrastructure and efficient urban mobility. He also highlighted that the completion of this project marks a major milestone in the development of Coimbatore city and the western region of Tamil Nadu.
