Sons kill father for insurance money, russell’s viper bite staged as natural death

In a chilling case of premeditated murder driven by greed, police have arrested six persons, including two sons, for killing a government school employee by making a Russell’s viper bite him and staging the death as a natural snake bite.
The victim, Ganesan, aged 36, was a resident of Nallathinirkulam Street at Pothatturpet in Thiruvallur district and worked as a laboratory assistant at a government higher secondary school. He was found dead at his house on the morning of October 22, and his sons initially reported to the Pothatturpet police that he had died due to a snake bite while asleep.
Police registered a case and began an inquiry. However, investigators grew suspicious after noticing repeated contradictions in the statements given by family members. The insurance company, citing suspicious circumstances and the existence of multiple high-value insurance policies taken in Ganesan’s name, lodged a complaint with Northern Zone Inspector General of Police Asra Garg.
A detailed investigation revealed that Ganesan’s sons, Mohanraj and Hariharan, had conspired to murder their father to claim the insurance proceeds. They allegedly roped in Balaji (28), Prashanth (35), Naveen Kumar (28) of Manavur, and Dinakaran (28) of Mosur village in Ranipet district.
Police said the accused procured a Russell’s viper and deliberately made it bite Ganesan on the neck, ensuring his death and portraying the incident as an accidental snake bite.
All six accused have been arrested, and further investigation is under way.
