Avinashilingam Institute hosts capacity building programme

The R and D Cell, SEDGs Cell and the Departments of Biomedical Instrumentation Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering of the School of Engineering, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, organised a Capacity Building Programme on “Research In An Interdisciplinary Era” here on Wednesday. The programme featured an expert lecture by Dr. V. K. Sundararaman, MRI expert and Adjunct Professor at Avinashilingam Institute, who highlighted the growing importance of interdisciplinary research in driving innovation and addressing complex global challenges.
Dr. Sundararaman explained how the integration of engineering, life sciences, medicine and data analytics is reshaping the research landscape. He also spoke on the digital transformation of research, underlining the critical role played by artificial intelligence, big data and deep-tech solutions in creating future-ready career opportunities for students.
Emphasising the need to move beyond conventional disciplinary boundaries, he encouraged students to adopt collaborative research approaches to solve real-world problems. The session provided practical insights into how interdisciplinary thinking can lead to impactful outcomes across science, engineering and healthcare sectors.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students participated actively in the programme, engaging in discussions and gaining exposure to emerging trends in interdisciplinary research and technology-driven innovation.
The organisers said the programme successfully motivated students to explore new research directions, strengthen their skill sets and contribute meaningfully to innovation and societal development through collaborative and cross-disciplinary research initiatives.
