Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited on Tuesday announced the launch and pricing of the much-awaited petrol versions of its flagship SUVs, the Harrier and the Safari, marking a major expansion of their powertrain portfolio and strengthening the company’s presence in the premium SUV segment.
Both models are powered by the newly developed 1.5-litre Hyperion Turbo-GDi petrol engine. The Harrier Petrol has been priced from Rs 12.89 lakh, while the Safari Petrol starts at Rs 13.29 lakh, ex-showroom New Delhi. The introduction of the petrol variants provides customers with a wider choice beyond the brand’s well-established diesel offerings.
According to the company, the new Hyperion engine delivers best-in-segment fuel efficiency, with the Harrier earning recognition from the India Book of Records for achieving maximum fuel efficiency by a petrol manual SUV over a 12-hour period. Tata Motors said the engine has been developed using advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to deliver a refined balance of power, efficiency and drivability across city traffic and long highway runs.
The petrol-powered Harrier and Safari are equipped with several premium features typically seen in higher segments. These include a 36.9 cm cinematic infotainment display with Samsung Neo QLED technology, an immersive Dolby Atmos audio system, a digital rear-view mirror with built-in dual dash camera and DVR, memory-enabled ORVMs with auto reverse dip, and a clear-view dual camera washer system.
Safety continues to be a key focus area for Tata Motors. The company said all variants of the Harrier and Safari equipped with the Hyperion petrol engine have secured a five-star rating under Bharat NCAP, making the entire line-up of both SUVs fully five-star certified.
Commenting on the launch, Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, said the new petrol powertrain further enhances the strong legacy of the Harrier and Safari in design, performance and safety. He said the Harrier’s bold stance and dynamic appeal and the Safari’s long-standing reputation as a prestigious, aspirational SUV are now complemented by a quieter, smoother and technology-rich petrol driving experience.
Tata Motors said the new petrol variants have been developed for modern Indian customers seeking premium design, advanced technology, strong performance and high levels of comfort in the mid-size SUV space.
