A woman was killed and another person sustained serious injuries after explosives being carried on a two-wheeler detonated unexpectedly near Koodapakkam in Puducherry on Sunday.
According to police, the incident occurred when two persons travelling on a motorcycle were transporting explosive materials, which suddenly went off, causing a powerful blast. The woman, identified as a member of the Narikuravar community, died on the spot due to the impact of the explosion.
Her companion, who was also riding the motorcycle, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors described his condition as serious.
Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the explosives were allegedly being transported for hunting wild boar. The blast caused panic among residents in the area, with locals rushing to the spot after hearing the loud explosion.
Villianur police reached the scene soon after receiving information, secured the area and initiated an investigation. Police are examining the nature of the explosive material and verifying whether it was procured illegally.
The body of the deceased woman was sent for post-mortem examination, while further inquiries are under way to ascertain the circumstances leading to the explosion and possible violations of law related to possession and transport of explosives.
