Kavundampalayam MLA Kanimozhi Santhosh has launched the Kavundampalayam Governance Fellowship (KGF), an initiative aimed at training graduate students in government administration, public welfare schemes and policymaking.
The programme was launched at the MLA’s office in Thudiyalur to mark the birth anniversary of former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Kanimozhi Santhosh distributed training identity cards to the selected student volunteers and encouraged them to make the most of the
opportunity.
Kanimozhi Santhosh, who represents the Kavundampalayam constituency on behalf of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), had announced the fellowship on the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj. More than 1,000 graduate students reportedly applied to join the programme.
In the first phase, 20 students were selected for training. Lawyers, chartered accountants and government officials will provide guidance to help them understand government administration, public welfare initiatives, government schemes and policy
implementation.
The MLA has also been implementing constituency-level initiatives, including Pasumai Kavundampalayam in association with Isha and the Jana Nayagan Passport programme. These initiatives aim to promote environmental activities and identify local issues through party members so that solutions can be pursued.
Addressing the selected volunteers, Kanimozhi Santhosh urged them to view the fellowship as a learning opportunity rather than merely a programme to participate in. She said she hoped to learn from the students as they gained practical
experience.
Speaking to reporters, she said the fellowship brought together students from diverse academic backgrounds and was designed to help them understand how the Tamil Nadu government functions and the responsibilities of citizens.
She added that the initiative had been developed under her leadership to help students realise their aspirations and gain practical exposure to public service. Developing future leaders, she said, was one of her key objectives behind launching the programme.
