A newly constructed school building built at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore was inaugurated at the Government Higher Secondary School in R S Puram here on Monday, marking a major boost to public education infrastructure in the city.
The project was sponsored by Rtn. AKRFC Dr. Leema Rose Martin, Director of the Martin Group of Companies and Managing Trustee of the Martin Foundation. Her contribution was hailed as a reflection of sustained commitment towards education, social welfare and community development in Coimbatore.
The inauguration was formally carried out by Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Mayor K. Ranganayaki Ramachandran, who attended the function as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by Deputy Mayor R. Vetri Selvan. Several civic and education officials participated in the event, including K. A. Deivayanai Tamizhmarai, Chairman of the Coimbatore City Education Committee, S. Duraimurugan, Assistant Commissioner of the West Zone, Coimbatore, Karthik K. Selvaraj, Councillor of the 72nd Ward, and Malathi Nagaraj, Chairperson of the Education and Public Welfare Committee. John Paul, Public Relations Manager of the Martin Group, were also present. Speaking on the occasion, speakers highlighted the importance of public-private partnership in strengthening government schools and improving learning environments for students. The new building is expected to enhance classroom facilities and provide a better academic atmosphere for students of the school. The ceremony was attended by the school headmaster, teachers, parents, education department officials, ward residents from Coimbatore North and students. The event was described as a significant milestone in reinforcing community participation in the development of government educational institutions.
