3 arrested for possessing Country-made handgun

The Tirunelveli City Police have arrested three youths for possession of a country-made handgun, following a complaint registered within the Tirunelveli Municipal limits.
According to police sources, the case is connected to an 18-year-old girl, Shahrul Hamee, daughter of Muhammad Mustafa, a resident of Muhammadiyapuram in Dindigul district. Based on information received, police conducted an investigation that led to the detention of three suspects.
The arrested persons have been identified as Sikandar Sheikh Oli, aged 25, son of Dulkarni, hailing from Asanathapuram in the Begumpur area of Dindigul district; Muzamil Murshid, aged 21, son of Sakul Hameed Pasha, a resident of Melapalayam in Tirunelveli city; and another youth aged 26, whose involvement came to light during the inquiry.

During the investigation, police recovered a country-made handgun from the accused. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the weapon was illegally possessed, prompting the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Police officials said the trio was taken into custody and interrogated, following which they were formally arrested.

Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the firearm and whether the accused were involved in any other criminal activities.
The Tirunelveli City Police have stated that strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal possession of weapons and warned that intensified surveillance is being maintained to curb unlawful activities within city limits.
