Police officer assaults biker during CM visit

An incident involving a senior police officer assaulting a motorcyclist during traffic regulation for Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit has triggered widespread criticism after a video of the act went viral on social media.
The incident occurred near Suttur, close to Mysuru, where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah attended an agricultural seminar. After the event concluded, heavy vehicular congestion developed on the roads as the Chief Minister’s convoy began moving out, causing traffic snarls in the area.
Amid the congestion, Mysuru Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi was personally supervising traffic clearance. During this time, a biker allegedly attempted to cross the barricaded line, disrupting the movement of vehicles.
Eyewitnesses said the SP lost his temper and was seen punching and kicking the biker in full public view. The incident was captured on mobile phone cameras by bystanders and quickly spread across social media platforms.
The video has drawn sharp criticism from the public, with many condemning the excessive use of force by a senior police officer. Netizens and civil rights activists have questioned the justification for physical assault, even during high-security arrangements involving the Chief Minister.
Opposition leaders and members of the public have demanded strict action against the officer, stating that maintaining traffic order does not give police the authority to resort to violence against civilians.
Police sources said the matter has been brought to the notice of senior officials, and an internal review is likely. No official statement has yet been issued by the Karnataka Police or the state government regarding disciplinary action.
The incident has once again raised concerns about police conduct during VIP movements and the need for restraint and accountability, even under pressure-filled security situations.
