Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday expressed deep shock and grief over the death of a woman in a gas cylinder explosion during the Theerthavari festival held at the Thenpennai river in Manalurpettai village of Vanapuram taluk in Kallakurichi district.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said the incident occurred around 7.30 pm on Sunday when a hydrogen gas cylinder used for filling balloons exploded at the festival venue. Kala, 55, wife of Paramasivam and a resident of Inamkariyandal village in Tiruvannamalai district, died on the spot.
Eighteen persons sustained injuries in the mishap and are undergoing treatment at the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital and other hospitals. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure special and intensive medical care for all the injured.
Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Mr. Stalin announced financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. A sum of Rs. 3 lakh will be given to the family of the deceased, Rs. 1 lakh each to those seriously injured, and Rs. 50,000 each to those who suffered minor injuries.
The Chief Minister assured that the State Government would extend all necessary support to the affected families.
