Police seized around 100 kg of ganja stored illegally in a private warehouse in Kuniyamuthur area of Coimbatore, leading to the detention of four persons for intensive interrogation.
The contraband was found during a surprise inspection at a warehouse dealing in used car parts located in Karuvepilai Thottam along the Kuniyamuthur–Idayarpalayam Road, following a specific tip-off about illegal storage.
During the search, police uncovered multiple bundles of ganja concealed inside the premises. Preliminary investigations revealed that the narcotics were allegedly stocked for distribution.
Four persons identified as Abbas, Jenny Jacob, Ruben, all from Coimbatore, and Navpil from Kerala, have been detained and are being questioned in connection with the case.
Police are probing the possibility of a larger drug network behind the operation and are investigating whether the contraband was smuggled from neighbouring States such as Andhra Pradesh.
Heavy police presence has been maintained in the area following the seizure, which has created concern among residents due to the proximity of the warehouse to a busy locality.
The value of the seized ganja is estimated to run into several lakh rupees.
