A man allegedly murdered his father-in-law and seriously injured his mother-in-law in a drunken attack at Karkudal village near Virudhachalam in Cuddalore district, triggering shock in the locality.
Kanimozhi, a resident of Karkudal, had married Gandhi of Vadapadi 11 years ago, and the couple has two children. Gandhi was reportedly addicted to alcohol and frequently quarrelled with his wife, often suspecting her behaviour.
Following a domestic dispute on Monday, Kanimozhi left for her parents’ house with her children. Gandhi later went to the house in an inebriated state and picked up a quarrel with his father-in-law Selvamani. When Selvamani attempted to pacify him, Gandhi allegedly attacked him with a knife he had brought along, inflicting multiple injuries. Latha, wife of Selvamani, who tried to intervene, was also stabbed by Gandhi. Kanimozhi managed to escape from the house during the attack.
Hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed in and found the couple in a pool of blood. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Selvamani succumbed to his injuries despite treatment, while Latha remains under intensive care. Police have launched a search for Gandhi, who fled the scene after the attack. The incident has created panic among residents in the rea.
