District Supply officials seized 123 domestic gas cylinders that were illegally stockpiled at an unlicensed premises in Arulpuram near Palladam in Tiruppur district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by District Supply Officer Saravanan conducted a surprise raid at a vacant plot where a private gas agency had allegedly stored the cylinders without proper authorisation.
Officials found the cylinders stacked in an unsafe manner in a residential area, posing a serious risk to public safety.
The stock was reportedly intended for black-market sale at inflated prices, targeting migrant workers from northern states.
All 123 cylinders were immediately confiscated during the operation. Authorities have recommended action against the agency for violating regulatory norms.
Officials also warned that strict action would be taken against illegal hoarding and black-market sale of essential commodities.
