Police have launched an investigation into the theft of 137 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a house in Aranthangi in Pudukkottai district.
The house belongs to Haja Nazimuddin, a resident of Abdul Hameed Street, who is currently working abroad. His wife and daughters reside at the house.
According to police, the family had gone to a mosque for prayers and returned home when the incident occurred. On entering the house, two unidentified persons who were inside allegedly pushed them down and fled the scene.
Subsequently, it was found that gold jewellery weighing 137 sovereigns kept in a box had been stolen.
Based on a complaint, Aranthangi police registered a case and have launched a search to trace the unidentified suspects.
