ranasi after conducting an iftar gathering on a boat in the Ganga, triggering a controversy over religious sentiments.
According to police, the youths from the Madanpura area had gone to the Rajendra Prasad Ghat on the evening of March 16 and hired a private motor boat to reach the middle of the river. There, they broke their Ramadan fast and recorded videos of the gathering, which later circulated on social media.
The issue came to light after a complaint was filed by BJP Youth Wing functionary Rajat Jaiswal, alleging that holding the iftar on the Ganga had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and could disturb communal harmony.
Based on the complaint, police conducted an inquiry and arrested all 14 youths involved. They have been remanded to judicial custody. Police officials said further action would be taken if the boat operator is found to have violated any boating or safety regulations.
