15,933 dengue cases, 9 deaths in TN so far this year

Tamil Nadu has reported 15,933 cases of dengue and nine deaths so far this year, according to Health Minister K.G. Arunraj.
The State continues to take precautionary measures to control dengue, he told reporters in Chennai on Tuesday. This is the time when fever cases will be high, specifically respiratory infections such as flu. The government is taking preventive measures and the public should also stay aware. If children have fever, cough and cold, do not send them to school. As far as possible, wear masks while visiting public places, he said.
Earlier, he welcomed the undergraduate medical students enrolled for 2026-2027 academic year by presenting them with white coats and stethoscopes at the 192nd undergraduate students induction ceremony at Madras Medical College (MMC).
Of the 165 students admitted to MMC through the first round of counselling, 16 were admitted under the 7.5% preferential reservation for government school students.
He also inaugurated a Medical Education Content Creation Studio set up at a cost of ₹23.40 lakh and introduced a new talk series called “TEQtalksMed” to encourage entrepreneurial skills among students.
