At least 38 workers were killed and 27 others injured in a tragic mine explosion caused by a toxic gas leak in Plateau State, Nigeria.
The incident occurred at a mine operating in the Wase area, where a large number of labourers were engaged in work early in the morning. Officials said carbon monoxide gas leaked inside the mine, triggering a sudden fire that led to a powerful explosion.
Rescue teams rushed to the site immediately and launched operations to save workers trapped inside. However, 38 workers died on the spot.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals and are undergoing intensive treatment. The condition of several victims remains critical, and the death toll may rise.
Reports indicate the mine was functioning with inadequate safety measures, raising renewed concerns over illegal mining operations in Nigeria.
