The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), a humanitarian organization known for its enduring service and compassion, celebrated a momentous milestone as the IRCS Coimbatore District Branch marked its 90th anniversary this year. To commemorate the occasion, a grand event was organized at PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, attended by members, volunteers, and dignitaries from various service organizations.

The celebration brought together a distinguished gathering, including Chief Guest Vijay Gunasekaran, Managing Trustee of Adithya International School, Idigarai, and Guest of Honour Rtn. Chella K. Raghavendran, District Governor, Rotary International District 3206. The event was presided over by Dr. Nandini Rangaswamy, Chairperson of IRCS Coimbatore District Branch, in the presence of Dr. P. M. Murali, Vice Chairman, and Rtn. Mohan Sankar, Managing Committee Member.

Delivering the Presidential Address, Dr. Nandini Rangaswamy mentioned that over the decades, IRCS Coimbatore District Branch has been at the forefront of humanitarian action — providing disaster relief, extending medical assistance, conducting health and blood donation camps, and supporting community welfare initiatives. She reflected on the organization’s long-standing legacy of compassion and its mission to serve the most vulnerable. She emphasized that the Coimbatore branch’s success was built on the dedication of countless volunteers and the steadfast support of partner institutions, including educational bodies, corporate groups, service organizations, and the district administration.

Rtn. Chella K. Raghavendran, in his address, lauded the Indian Red Cross Society for its enduring contribution to the community and underscored the importance of collaboration among service organizations.
He noted that collective efforts such as those demonstrated by the Red Cross and Rotary help create a stronger, more compassionate society.
The highlight of the celebration was the recognition of individuals and institutions that have made remarkable contributions to humanitarian causes. Appreciation certificates were presented to 21 Round Tablers, Rotarians, and community members, as well as 83 representatives from 26 colleges, including principals, Youth Red Cross Programme Officers, and student volunteers. Additionally, 24 Covid-19 volunteers were honored for their selfless service during the pandemic.

In his welcome address, Dr. P. M. Murali traced the branch’s growth from its humble beginnings to its present-day prominence, noting the many initiatives that have touched lives across the district.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Rtn. Mohan Sankar, who acknowledged the contributions of all those who have supported the Red Cross cause over the years.
