Senior IPS officer A. Amalraj assumed charge as the Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Police on Friday morning.
The appointment comes amid a major administrative reshuffle of IAS and IPS officers following the formation of the new government in Tamil Nadu.
Amalraj had earlier served as the Commissioner of Police, Tambaram City, before being transferred and placed on compulsory wait in April this year.
After being appointed as the Chennai Police Commissioner by the State Government on Thursday, Amalraj formally took charge at the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner’s office in Vepery.
Prior to assuming office, he received a ceremonial guard of honour from police personnel.
Former Chennai Police Commissioner Abin Dinesh Modak has been transferred and posted as Additional Director General of Police, CBCID.
