Residents of Arivoli Nagar near Palladam in Tiruppur district were shocked to find a large number of Aadhaar cards and other sensitive documents dumped at a garbage site on Thursday morning.
The residents alerted the Revenue Department, whose officials visited the spot and inspected the documents. The discarded papers reportedly included Aadhaar cards, credit cards and bank loan-related documents addressed to residents in the Avinashi area. The documents were said to have been dispatched through the postal service.
Officials have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for dumping the documents and determine how they ended up at the site.
Residents said a similar incident had occurred a few months ago, when a large number of ration cards were found discarded in the area. They alleged that no action had been taken over the earlier incident.
Demanding accountability, residents urged the authorities to identify those responsible and initiate strict legal or disciplinary action.
