A 40-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh was found brutally murdered with her face disfigured by acid in a field near Thottareddikuppam village, close to Uthukottai in Tiruvallur district, on Friday morning.
The woman, identified as Aruna, 40, from Ninrai, Savarampakkam village near Nagalapuram in Andhra Pradesh, had reportedly been staying at a relative’s house in Vadattur Kandigai village near Thamaraipakkam Junction.
On receiving information from local residents, Uthukottai police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. A mobile phone found near the body was also seized for investigation.
Police suspect that Aruna was strangled to death after acid was poured on her face, apparently to disfigure her identity. Investigators are probing several angles, including a possible property dispute among relatives.
Police are also investigating whether she was abducted, sexually assaulted and murdered before acid was poured on her face to prevent identification. Further investigation is under way.
