Actor Robo Shankar Passes Away in Chennai

Popular Tamil actor and comedian Robo Shankar (46) passed away today in Chennai due to prolonged illness, sending shockwaves across the film industry and among his fans.

Robo Shankar, who first rose to fame through television comedy shows, went on to become a much-loved actor on the silver screen. He won appreciation for his memorable comic roles in hit films such as Puli (2015) with Vijay, Viswasam (2019) with Ajith, Maari (2015) and Maari 2 (2018) with Dhanush, and Velaikkaran (2017) with Sivakarthikeyan. His performance in Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (2013) was considered a breakthrough in his cinema career.

In recent months, Robo Shankar had been battling jaundice and severe complications in the liver and kidneys. Despite his ill health, he continued to act. Yesterday, while shooting in Chennai, he fainted and was admitted to a private hospital in Perungudi. Initially diagnosed with dehydration and low blood pressure, his condition worsened, and despite intensive care, he passed away this morning.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed deep sorrow, recalling how Robo Shankar, who began his journey on stage and later on television, entertained the people of Tamil Nadu through his unique style. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin personally paid his respects and consoled the grieving family.

The actor’s last rites will be performed this afternoon in Chennai.
