Artificial Intelligence (AI) has sparked another online frenzy, this time with 3D photo transformations that are flooding social media platforms.
The trend first picked up when Ghibli-style portraits created using ChatGPT’s image tools went viral. Soon, users began reimagining their own pictures in the same style and posting them online.
Now, the spotlight is on “Nano Banana”, the codename for Google’s new Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model, which has quickly become the latest sensation. With this tool, anyone can upload a photo and generate a fully rendered 3D version within 10 to 30 seconds. It also accepts text prompts, allowing users to create visuals ranging from animated heroes to cyberpunk avatars.
Its speed, simplicity, and free access have made it wildly popular. Social media feeds are now crowded with 3D versions of politicians, film stars, public figures, animals, and everyday selfies, as people race to join the trend.
Observers say the surge highlights how fast AI-driven creativity captures public imagination, with many simply captioning their uploads: “Let’s post something trending.”
