AIADMK functionary’s daughter murdered in Salem

Police have arrested Udayasaran, COO of a private hospital, on charges of murdering Bharathi (38), daughter of a prominent AIADMK leader from Salem. Bharathi, a resident of Ramakrishna Salai, Veeraragavan Street, ran a tuition centre in Shankarnagar and lived alone.
Bharathi was found dead under suspicious circumstances the day before yesterday.
Her relatives alleged foul play and named Udayasaran as the suspect.
The Asthampatti police registered a case, and post-mortem findings confirmed that she had been murdered.
During interrogation, police said that Udayasaran confessed to killing Bharathi.
According to the investigation, Bharathi had earlier worked in Bengaluru and later moved to Salem, where she met Udayasaran (49) during an event at a well-known hotel.
Though married with two children, he allegedly continued a relationship with Bharathi and frequently stayed at her tuition
centre.
Police sources said that Bharathi had gifted him a 10-sovereign gold bracelet, which he sold.
Tensions reportedly grew when she pressured him to divorce his wife.
On Sunday night, after the two returned from a cinema, an argument broke out at her residence.
Bharathi, who reportedly smoked two cigarettes at a time, began questioning him about the divorce, during which she allegedly bit his hand. Enraged, Udayasaran is said to have assaulted her and suffocated her with a
pillow.
Following the confession, police altered the case from suspicious death to murder and arrested him on Tuesday evening.
He was produced before a court and remanded. His wife, who also works at the same hospital, visited the station and broke down on seeing him.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage from near Bharathi’s residence showed another man visiting the house.
Police identified him as a friend whom Bharathi had called, saying she was struggling to
breathe.
He reportedly helped take her to the hospital. Police are continuing inquiries with him as part of the
investigation.
