AIADMK promises Rs 2,000 monthly aid for women

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections a few months away, political activity has gathered pace across the State, with major parties stepping up preparations for their election manifestos.
In this backdrop, AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday announced a series of welfare assurances, stating that a new scheme named Kulavilakku would be implemented if the party is voted to power.
Addressing party functionaries, Palaniswami said the government would purchase land and construct houses for families that do not own a home. He also announced that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme would be extended from the existing 100 days to 150 days.
Under a women-focused welfare initiative, he said family ration card holders would receive Rs. 2,000 every month, with the amount to be directly credited to the bank accounts of housewives.
In a major transport-related promise, the AIADMK leader said free bus travel would be extended to men as well, in addition to the existing free travel facility for women.
He further announced the revival of the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme, offering a subsidy of Rs. 25,000 to five lakh women beneficiaries to support their livelihood and mobility.
Palaniswami added that several more key assurances would be unveiled when the second phase of the party’s election promises is announced.
