Akhilesh Slams UP Govt After Pregnant Woman Taken in Bullock Cart

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has criticised the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government after a video surfaced showing a pregnant woman being taken to a hospital in a bullock cart through a muddy, waterlogged road in Hamirpur district.
The incident occurred in Parsatwa Dera village near Kayu Khad in Sumerpur area, where the woman’s 60-year-old father-in-law transported her on a bullock cart after an ambulance failed to reach their home due to poor road conditions.
Sharing the video on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Akhilesh Yadav wrote:
> “Under the BJP’s misrule, the bullock cart has become an ambulance in Uttar Pradesh. Can a trillion-dollar economy run on bullock carts? The Chief Minister should see through drones or telescopes the real state of roads and ambulances.”
According to reports, the woman endured a three-hour journey before reaching the nearest community health centre, where doctors gave her first aid and advised that delivery could take another two days.
Residents of Parsatwa Dera village, home to about 500 people, said they face similar hardships every monsoon due to unpaved roads and poor drainage, which make vehicle movement nearly impossible.
The video has since gone viral, prompting public outrage and raising questions about the government’s rural infrastructure claims. Opposition leaders have accused the ruling BJP of ignoring essential development, while local officials have assured that road repairs will be undertaken soon.
