Union Home Minister Amit Shah will undertake a road show in Sivagiri on Sunday in support of BJP candidate Krithika Sivakumar contesting from the Modakkurichi constituency, as electioneering intensifies ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls on April 23.
With campaigning set to conclude at 6 p.m. on April 21, political activity has peaked across the State, with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Edappadi K. Palaniswami and other leaders actively canvassing for their respective parties and alliances.
According to official sources, Amit Shah will arrive by helicopter at 9.30 a.m. at a specially Preparationed helipad at Tamarai Matriculation Higher Secondary School grounds in Thamaraipalayam, located about 7 km from Sivagiri. He will then proceed by road to Sivagiri, where he is scheduled to begin his road show at 10 a.m. near the Government Hospital.
The road show will cover a distance of around 700 metres, culminating near the Dheeran Chinnamalai statue at the old bus stand area. After the programme, he is expected to leave the venue.
In view of the high-profile visit, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place. More than 500 police personnel, led by Superintendent of Police Kiran Sruthi, have been deployed along the route from Thamaraipalayam to Sivagiri.
Police have also intensified verification of shops and residences along the route, collecting identity details including Aadhaar information of occupants as part of security measures.
Meanwhile, the district administration has imposed a ban on the operation of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles in and around the helipad area and along the road show route. District Collector Kandasamy warned that strict action would be taken against violators.
The visit has further heightened the political atmosphere in Erode district as campaigning enters its final phase.
