Global football icon Lionel Messi was gifted an ultra-luxury wristwatch worth over Rs 10 crore by businessman Anant Ambani during the Argentine captain’s visit to India, drawing widespread attention.
Messi, captain of the Argentina national football team and an eight-time World Player of the Year award winner, is on a three-day India tour with his Inter Miami teammates. His visit began in Kolkata, where he unveiled a full-length statue. He later visited the Salt Lake Stadium but had to leave shortly due to security concerns arising from an overwhelming crowd.
From Kolkata, Messi travelled to Hyderabad, where he played football with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. On the second day of his tour, he arrived in Mumbai and attended a grand event at the Wankhede Stadium, which witnessed a massive turnout of fans.
Several dignitaries, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Indian football star Sunil Chhetri, were present at the event. Tendulkar presented Messi with a signed cricket bat as a souvenir. Messi spent nearly an hour at the stadium interacting with guests.
On the third day of his visit, Messi reached New Delhi and participated in an event held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. During the programme, ICC official Jay Shah presented him with the Indian cricket team’s number 10 jersey. At the same event, Anant Ambani gifted Messi a Richard Mille RM 003 V2 Asian Edition watch, valued at approximately Rs 10.91 crore. Only 12 pieces of this exclusive watch have been produced worldwide, making it a rare collector’s item.
