Anbil Mahesh Inaugurates State Resource Centre For Experiential Teacher Training

School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh on Wednesday inaugurated a newly established State Resource Centre aimed at strengthening laboratory-based experiential learning for teachers during State-level training programmes.
Announcing the initiative, the Minister said the centre has been set up to support teachers in adopting innovative learning and teaching practices, particularly those driven by rapidly emerging new technologies.
The objective is to study modern pedagogical strategies, offer classroom-oriented recommendations and develop laboratory models that encourage hands-on learning for students.
The State Resource Centre has been established at the Directorate of Public Instruction campus in Chennai at a cost of Rs. 5 crore and is equipped with modern facilities. School Education Secretary P. Chandramohan was present during the inauguration.
According to the School Education Department, the centre will function as a knowledge and research hub, providing guidance to teachers to enhance classroom instruction. It will offer opportunities for teachers to learn through practical application during in-service training programmes and support research into new and effective teaching methodologies.
Officials said the centre has been designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice by enabling teachers to experience and test teaching techniques before implementing them in classrooms.
As part of the initiative, dedicated halls have been established for language laboratories, science and mathematics learning, and a special room designed to support children with special needs. A separate hall named ‘Karka Kasadara’ has also been created to allow students to conduct experiments and learn subjects through direct participation.
The department said the facility will help teachers and students deepen subject understanding, improve learning outcomes and promote experiential education across schools in Tamil Nadu.
