Annual flower show planned at Semmozhi park: Mayor R Ranganayaki

Coimbatore Mayor R. Ranganayaki on Monday announced that an annual flower exhibition will be organised at Semmozhi Park as part of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation’s tourism and public engagement initiatives.
The Corporation’s Budget for the financial year 2026–27 was presented at the Council meeting held at Victoria Hall in the Town Hall.
Finance Committee Chairman Mubasira tabled the budget in the presence of Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran and Deputy Mayor R. Vetriselvan.
The budget projects a revenue of Rs. 4,915.50 crore and capital expenditure of Rs. 5,041.71 crore, resulting in a net deficit of Rs. 126.21 crore.
Among the key announcements was the proposal to conduct an annual flower show at Semmozhi Park, developed by the Corporation and inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The park has been witnessing increasing footfall, especially on weekends, attracting visitors from neighbouring districts and neighbouring states.
The flower show is expected to boost tourism and provide a platform for local horticulture enthusiasts and farmers to showcase their produce. Corporation sources said necessary financial allocation will be made and steps will be initiated soon.
The budget also includes a proposal to establish two rejuvenation centres for senior citizens in the city during the current financial year, with a total allocation of Rs. 8 crore, at Rs. 4 crore each.
Regional presidents Lakshmee Ilanchelvi Karthik, Meenalogu, Deivanai Tamilmarai, Kathirvel and Dhanalakshmi, Health Committee Chairman Marichelvan, Standing Committee Chairpersons and councillors were present.
