Anti-drug awareness campaign held in 210 schools in Kovai district

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the Coimbatore Bar Association (CBA) jointly organised an anti-drug awareness campaign at 210 government and aided schools across Coimbatore district on Thursday.
The organisers said that the campaign is aimed at empowering schoolchildren with awareness, knowledge, self-confidence and practical life skills to protect themselves from substance abuse, harmful influences and unsafe situations.
Judges of the Madras High Court and Portfolio Judges of Coimbatore district Justice P. Velmurugan and Justice P. Dhanabal launched the campaign through video conferencing while J. Sridevi, Principal District Judge, Coimbatore, presided over the inauguration at the district court hall.
Advocates of CBA visited schools designated to them and engaged directly with students through awareness sessions. A significant feature of the campaign was the preparation of a common syllabus and a district-wide awareness manual, designed to provide a consistent, structured and child-centred approach to awareness programmes across all participating schools, said the organisers.
