Armed paramilitary personnel and police conducted a flag march in Mettupalayam ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections to ensure peaceful polling.
The march was carried out through the main streets of Mettupalayam under the leadership of CRPF Assistant Commandant Bindu Mathew in coordination with the district police.
With the Election Commission expected to announce the Assembly election schedule shortly, political parties have begun preparatory activities and campaigning across the State.
A total of 73 personnel from the Central paramilitary forces and the police took part in the flag march to create awareness among the public about casting their votes without fear and to warn those attempting illegal activities during the election period.
Paramilitary personnel carrying modern weapons participated in the march along with police officials including DSP Bhaskar and Inspector Manikandan, accompanied by a band.
The procession began near the Cooperative Colony area on the Coimbatore–Mettupalayam National Highway, passed through the major streets of the town and concluded at the Mettupalayam police station.
