Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, has secured the 15th rank in the National Green University Ranking (NUGR) 2026, conducted by Green Mentors, an organisation that assesses higher educational institutions for their commitment to environmental sustainability and sustainable campus development.
The institute also received a Gold Rating with an overall score of 92.1 out of 100 among 64 participating institutions, according to the official communication issued by Green Mentors. The ranking evaluates institutions on key sustainability parameters, including green campus initiatives, biodiversity conservation, resource management, renewable energy adoption, waste management, water conservation, environmental awareness programmes, institutional policies and the integration of sustainable development into academic, research, extension and administrative activities.
The recognition highlights the institute’s sustained efforts in implementing eco-friendly practices such as energy conservation, water resource management, solid waste management, tree plantation, green landscaping, environmental education and awareness campaigns promoting sustainable lifestyles. The institute has also aligned its academic, research and extension initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The institute said the achievement was the result of the visionary leadership and collective efforts of the Hon’ble Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, SDG Team, IQAC Team, faculty members, administrative staff, students, researchers and other stakeholders, who worked together to embed sustainability into institutional policies and practices. Their collaborative efforts have played a significant role in developing a green campus that upholds environmental stewardship while maintaining academic excellence.
The institute said the recognition would further encourage it to strengthen its sustainability initiatives through innovative practices, interdisciplinary research, community engagement and continuous environmental improvement. It reaffirmed its commitment to expanding green infrastructure, promoting sustainable resource utilisation and adopting best practices that support climate resilience, biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
The institute expressed confidence that the national recognition would inspire its academic community to achieve higher standards of sustainability and institutional excellence, with the vision of emerging as one of India’s leading environmentally responsible higher educational institutions.
