Avinashilingam Institute hosts AICTE Lecture on Green Energy

The School of Engineering of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women organised an AICTE Distinguished Professional Lecture on “Green Energy and Fire Safety” on December 15, focusing on the need to balance sustainability with safety in modern energy systems.
Presiding over the programme, Dr. V. Bharathi Harishankar, Honourable Vice-Chancellor, highlighted recent advancements in green energy and emphasised sustainable development as a key priority. She underlined the role of technological innovation in risk management, energy conservation and the safe adoption of renewable energy solutions. The distinguished lecture was delivered by Dr. Chitra Rajagopal, AICTE Distinguished Professional, PSA Fellow, and former Distinguished Scientist and Director General (R&M), DRDO. She elaborated on the importance of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydropower and hydrogen fuels in addressing climate change and meeting future energy demands.
Dr. Chitra Rajagopal also stressed the critical fire and safety aspects associated with green energy technologies. She discussed potential hazards in energy industries and highlighted the need for stringent safety standards and regulatory compliance as green technologies continue to evolve.
The lecture explained how the adoption of green energy helps in reducing carbon footprints and contributes significantly to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It also addressed the impact of rising global temperatures on future habitats and the survival of living beings.
A special interaction session with faculty members, research scholars and postgraduate students enabled focused discussions on key challenges, safety concerns and research opportunities in green energy systems. The programme enhanced awareness of renewable energy practices and safety standards, motivating participants to adopt sustainable, safe and responsible energy solutions.
