The Department of Food Science and Nutrition, School of Home Science, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, in association with the Nutrition Association, Nutrition Society of India, Coimbatore Chapter, and Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas Chair, organised a one-day conclave on “Global Perspectives on Emerging Trends in Food and Nutritional Sciences” on March 3 in hybrid mode.
The conclave aimed to promote academic excellence, encourage interdisciplinary research, strengthen industry–academia collaboration and facilitate global knowledge exchange among researchers, academicians and students.
Vice Chancellor V. Bharathi Harishankar presided over the programme and emphasised the importance of innovation-driven research, global academic partnerships and sustainable development in higher education. She highlighted the institution’s commitment to impactful research addressing societal needs.
S. Amsamani, Dean of the School of Home Science, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the growing role of artificial intelligence in the food industry while stressing the need to balance technological advancement with traditional practices. Pa. Raajeswari, Professor and Head of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, addressed the participants, and S. Thilakavathy, Associate Professor of the department, proposed the vote of thanks.
The conclave featured five technical sessions by experts from India and abroad focusing on emerging trends in food and nutritional sciences. Registrar H. Indu presided over the valedictory session and emphasised the role of education and research in advancing food and nutrition for better health. Awards were presented for the best poster presentations across ten sub-themes.
The programme concluded with certificate distribution, marking the successful completion of the academic conclave that served as a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration and professional networking.
