Security forces recovered two balloons containing US dollar and Pakistani currency notes near the Line of Control in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the balloons were found in a forward area close to the LoC. The recovered currency notes have been seized, and investigations are under way to ascertain whether the US and Pakistani notes are genuine or counterfeit.
Officials said the origin and intent behind the release of the balloons are also being probed.
The recovery comes a day after a balloon bearing the name of Pakistan International Airlines was reportedly found within the premises of the Air Force station in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, triggering heightened vigilance.
Security agencies are examining all angles as part of routine precautionary measures along the border.
