Barrier at U-Turn Point causes frequent accidents on Avinashi Road

Motorists travelling along the busy Avinashi Road in Coimbatore are facing severe hardship due to traffic congestion and frequent accidents near the Sitra area, where barricades have been placed at a crucial U-turn point in front of a private hospital and hotel.
Vehicle drivers, especially two-wheeler riders and car users, said taking a U-turn and moving towards the right side has become highly difficult because of the barricades positioned near the median opening. The situation worsens during peak hours as a bus stop located close to the spot leads to continuous movement of buses, autos and other vehicles, resulting in heavy traffic congestion on the stretch.
Commuters alleged that motorists are often forced to slow down abruptly or make risky turns due to the narrow turning space created by the barricades.
Minor accidents and near-miss incidents are reported frequently in the area, causing panic among road users and delays in traffic movement.
Residents and regular commuters have urged the traffic police and civic authorities to take immediate steps to ease congestion and prevent accidents.
They suggested that the barricades could either be shifted slightly backwards to provide sufficient turning space or removed completely in the interest of public safety and smoother traffic flow.
Motorists also appealed to the authorities to conduct a detailed traffic assessment in the Sitra junction area and implement permanent measures to ensure safer and hassle-free vehicle movement on Avinashi Road.
