BJP Leader’s Son Arrested in Drug Case in Chennai

The son of a senior BJP functionary has been arrested in Chennai for alleged possession of narcotic substances, after police intercepted a car during a routine patrol.

According to police sources, Abdul Rahman (21), son of Vellore Ibrahim, National Secretary of the BJP Minority Wing, was arrested along with his driver Rashid (25) by the Thirumangalam police. The arrests were made late Sunday night during patrols on Badikuppam Road, aimed at curbing drug trafficking and illegal sales in the area.

Police officers noticed three men behaving suspiciously near a parked car. When questioned, they reportedly gave contradictory replies. As the police began checking the vehicle, one of the suspects fled the scene, while the remaining two were detained.

Upon searching the car, police recovered 7 grams of cocaine, 20 grams of ganja, packets of suspected bribes, four mobile phones, a cannabis grinder, and a portable weighing machine. All the seized items were taken into custody, and the two accused were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police have launched a search for the absconding suspect and are investigating whether the arrested individuals were part of a larger drug supply network.

Senior officers confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further details will be disclosed after the preliminary inquiry.
