A shocking incident has unfolded in Thrissur, Kerala, where a woman allegedly murdered her mother to steal a gold chain to help her lover who was in financial distress.
Thangamani, a resident of Mundur, was found dead in the backyard of her house on Sunday morning, with injuries visible on her face. Police initially suspected she had slipped and fallen. Her body was sent for post-mortem, which confirmed that she had been murdered.
During the inquiry, neighbours told police that Thangamani always wore a gold chain, but it was missing on the day of her death. This led investigators to question her daughter, Sandhya (45), who lived with her after separating from her husband.
Police found that Sandhya was in a relationship with Nithin (29), a local youth who was reportedly facing financial difficulties. Sandhya had asked her mother for her gold chain to support him, but Thangamani refused.
During a heated argument, Sandhya allegedly grabbed her mother by the neck and pushed her to the ground, causing fatal injuries. She and Nithin then attempted to stage the scene as an accidental fall.
Both Sandhya and Nithin have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
