Bride showered with currency notes at wedding reception

A wedding reception in Punjab has drawn widespread attention after videos surfaced showing the groom’s family showering the bride with currency notes as part of a traditional
celebration.
In several parts of Punjab, showering banknotes on the bride and groom is considered a customary gesture symbolising prosperity and happiness.
In the viral video, the bride is seen standing at the centre of the reception stage while the groom stands beside her, tossing currency notes taken from a bag.
Family members join in, throwing notes that rain down on the bride, covering the stage floor.
Guests filmed the spectacle on mobile phones, and the footage has since gone viral on social media platforms.
Initial reports claimed that currency worth Rs 8.5 crore was showered on the bride during the February 14 wedding held in Dharan, Punjab.
However, the groom’s brother, Sikandar Singh, refuted the claim, stating that only about Rs 2 lakh was used.
Event organisers also dismissed the exaggerated figures, clarifying that including foreign currency, the total amount did not exceed Rs 4 lakh.
