Police conducted intensive inspections with sniffer dogs at bus stands and parcel warehouses across Coimbatore city as part of measures to curb the movement of narcotic substances.
The Tamil Nadu Government has been intensifying efforts to prevent the circulation of banned tobacco products, ganja and other narcotic substances.
Police teams have been carrying out frequent raids in several areas and seizing prohibited materials.
A review meeting on the theme “Drug-Free Tamil Nadu, Drug-Free Coimbatore” was held at the Coimbatore District Collectorate on Monday under the chairmanship of Prohibition and Excise Minister Vignesh, with the participation of government and police officials.
Following the meeting, police personnel launched surprise inspections on Tuesday morning at major bus stands and parcel storage facilities in the city.
Assisted by sniffer dogs, officers examined shops, luggage compartments of buses, warehouses, sacks and carton boxes to detect any concealed narcotic substances.
