The Cauvery Water Management Authority has directed Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu at a rate of 3,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) for 15 days. The order follows a meeting of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee held in New Delhi on October 8. During the meeting, Tamil Nadu alleged that Karnataka had failed to release the State’s allocated share of Cauvery
water.
Tamil Nadu sought the release of 12,000 cusecs for 15 days. However, the committee rejected the request and recommended releasing 3,000 cusecs per second for the same period.
The Cauvery Water Management Authority subsequently accepted the committee’s recommendation and issued the order for the 15-day
release.
The directive comes amid continued disagreement between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over Cauvery water sharing, with Karnataka maintaining its objections to releasing water to
Tamil Nadu.
