CBDC system launched in Puducherry

The Central Bank Digital Currency system was formally introduced under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana at a function held at Kamban Kalai Arangam here on Thursday.
The initiative was organised by the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in coordination with the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of Puducherry.
Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the rollout by distributing foodgrains to beneficiaries using the digital currency platform, marking the operational launch of the system in the Union Territory.
Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Speaker R. Selvam, Public Works Minister K. Lakshminarayanan, Civil Supplies Minister P.R.N. Thirumurugan, Deputy Speaker V.P. Rajavelu, MLA A.K.D. Arumugam, Union Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra and Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan were among those present at the event.
