CDTA League opens January 24

The Coimbatore District Tennis Association announced on Thursday that the CDTA League 2026 will open on January 24, marking the 48th year of India’s largest tennis league conducted in a league format.
League matches will be played every weekend across venues in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Pollachi and the Nilgiri districts, with teams competing across multiple divisions.
The association is headed by President Srinivasan, with Sathish Nair serving as Secretary. The executive committee includes Vice Presidents A.R. Chockalingam and Sadhasivam, Joint Secretary Dandoo and Treasurer Narendra.
Addressing the media, CDTA Secretary Sathish Nair, along with Vice President A.R. Chockalingam, said the 2026 edition will be the biggest so far, featuring a record 116 teams across 11 divisions from Division A to Division K. Around 1,200 players are expected to participate. He noted that the league has shown steady growth, expanding from 109 teams in 2024 to 111 teams in 2025.
CDTA has a rich legacy in Indian tennis, having successfully hosted the prestigious Davis Cup ties in Coimbatore in 1977. The association launched its first district-level tennis league in 1978, making the upcoming season the 48th consecutive year of league competition.
Coimbatore has produced several prominent tennis players, including K.G. Ramesh, Manoj Raghavan, Sriram Balaji and Nirupama. Continuing this tradition, Mayaa, who received early support from CDTA, is currently ranked World No. 34 in the Junior ITF world rankings.
Apart from the league, CDTA supports registered academies across the district in conducting AITA-approved tournaments in various formats, contributing to player development at both grassroots and competitive levels.
