Cell phone usage dispute ends in sister’s murder

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her younger brother following a family dispute at Suthamalli Melagram village in Tirunelveli district. Police have arrested the accused and launched further investigations into the incident.
The victim, R. Ramalakshmi, was employed at a private solar company in Gangaikondan SIPCOT. Her younger brother, Muthukrishnan, 21, worked as a cashier at a hotel in Nanguneri and had recently returned home for a temple festival.
According to police, frequent arguments had occurred between the siblings over Ramalakshmi’s prolonged use of her mobile phone. On Tuesday night, another quarrel reportedly broke out at their residence while their parents were attending to livestock behind the house.
During the altercation, Muthukrishnan allegedly attacked his sister with a sickle, inflicting severe injuries. Family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted her to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Based on a complaint, Suthamalli police registered a case and arrested Muthukrishnan. Further investigation is under way.
