A 27-year-old private bank employee was allegedly murdered by her husband, a chartered accountant, a day after the couple celebrated Valentine’s Day in Haryana.
Police identified the victim as Mahak, a resident of Gurugram, who had married Anshul Dhawan on September 25, 2025. The couple had travelled to Dhawan’s hometown Hisar on February 14 and later visited Mahak’s parents in Hansi on February 15.
According to police, the couple left Hansi around 7 p.m. to return to Gurugram. Later, Dhawan informed authorities that unidentified assailants had robbed and killed his pregnant wife near Basolar village in Jhajjar district.
However, investigators grew suspicious after noticing inconsistencies in his statements. During sustained interrogation, Dhawan allegedly confessed to the crime. Police said he admitted to strangling Mahak during an argument inside the car and later fatally attacking her with scissors. He reportedly wore gloves to avoid leaving evidence and attempted to stage the incident as a robbery.
Dhawan has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather forensic evidence. The incident has sent shockwaves across the region.
