Transport Minister Sivashankar today launched a new digital facility that enables commuters to purchase electronic monthly travel cards through the ‘Chennai One’ app, offering a smoother and fully cashless experience for city bus passengers.
The initiative was introduced at the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) headquarters on Pallavan Road. The service is jointly offered by MTC and Qumata, the technology partner for the Chennai One platform.
Through this facility, passengers can now obtain Golden Tickets priced at ₹1,000 and Diamond Tickets priced at Rs 2,000 directly on their mobile phones. These monthly passes were earlier issued only at MTC ticket counters in major bus termini.
The physical “Travel As You Wish” passes have now been converted into electronic travel cards, which can be purchased anytime, anywhere through the Chennai One app.
Each electronic travel card is valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. Since the system is entirely cashless, users can instantly pay via UPI, debit cards, or credit cards and receive the digital travel card within seconds.
Transport department officials said the new system will save time for commuters, eliminate long queues, and ensure a safe, convenient, and efficient method for obtaining monthly travel passes.
