Chennai man returns lost Gold Jewellery honestly

In a remarkable act of honesty, a private company employee from Chennai returned gold jewellery worth ₹7 lakh that he found outside his house, earning appreciation from both citizens and police officials.
According to police sources, Sivakumar (49), a resident of Pondicherry Road, Kotturpuram, who works at a private firm in Nandambakkam, noticed a plastic cover lying outside his home on October 31. On inspection, he discovered four pieces of gold jewellery, including a chain and bracelet, weighing 57 grams.
With no one coming forward to claim the valuables, Sivakumar immediately contacted the police control room. A team from the Kotturpuram Police Station visited his house, verified the ornaments, and took them into safe custody.
Days later, a man named John visited the police station with his daughter, reporting that the jewellery he had taken for name engraving before a family wedding had gone missing. Upon verification, police confirmed the ornaments recovered near Sivakumar’s house belonged to John and promptly handed them over. John’s family expressed heartfelt thanks to Sivakumar for his honesty and to the Kotturpuram police for their swift action. Police officials, in turn, praised Sivakumar for his integrity, calling him a role model for civic responsibility.
In another instance, Velmurugan, who runs a Xerox shop in the Ice House area, handed over a five-sovereign thali chain left behind by a customer named Kalaivanan. The Ice House police returned it to Kalaivanan’s wife, Ranjani, and commended Velmurugan for his honesty.
Police said both incidents highlight how citizens’ integrity and cooperation play a vital role in strengthening community trust and law enforcement efforts.
